May 2024 Canterbury Update

Another year at Canterbury is in the books. This week, students at Texas Tech finished up finals and completed another year of education. At Canterbury, this last Sunday, we celebrated the end of the semester and the four graduates at Canterbury who completed their degrees. It is always a bittersweet time of year to both celebrate all the successes of the students but also to say goodbye to Canterburians who will move along to the next leg of their journey.

The good news is that as Canterbury has grown, we have more and more students staying in Lubbock over the summer. In fact, this summer, we have more than 15 students who will remain in town. Over the summer, the students are planning on keeping the community going while the chaplain is away on vacation. They are planning book studies, game nights, movie nights, trips to the local farmer's market, and so much more.

It is a beautiful thing not only to see how close the Canterbury community has become, but to see how these students are taking ownership of their ministry. More and more students are stepping into leadership rolls. As we finished up the semester, we developed 10 new student-led committees. Through these committees, most of the students at Canterbury are now actively involved in the planning and management of Canterbury from the planning of the worship services, to the cleaning and maintenance of the building, to the baking of bread for the Eucharist. I am so proud of their love and care of Canterbury, and I look forward seeing the direction they lead us in the coming year.

1. Donate to our Garage Sale - Canterbury's Annual Garage Sale will be on June 7-8. Please consider donating to help us raise money for our events and programs. You can deliver items to Canterbury Episcopal Campus Ministry at 2407 16th St. or call the chaplain for a pick-up (575.631-5345).

2. Purchase a Stylish Episcopal T-Shirt - Canterbury Episcopal Campus Ministry has designed more cool shirts. Each design comes in a number of sizes, colors, and styles. 3. Contribute to our Fundraising Efforts - Almost all Canterbury events and programs are supported through fundraising efforts by Canterbury students. If you would like to help support our programs and events, please consider making a monetary donation by clicking here.

4. Consider Hiring a Student for Odd Jobs Around the House - Our students are always looking for ways to make some extra money. If you are looking for a house sitter, a baby sitter, a person to clean your house, or someone to help with yard work, consider contacting the Canterbury office to find a students who may be available to help.
