September 2024 Youth Update

I am so excited to share that we had two great weeks of summer camp this year. No one went to the hospital, only a few trips to Urgent Care, no homesickness, and minimal drama. Our numbers at the younger camp were lower. We will work on that during the year.

“Psalm 23: The Lord is my Shepherd” was the theme at both camps. We learned about our relationship with God. Our campers and staff worshipped together and enjoyed games, snacks, music, and crafts.

Camp Quarterman (our older camp) was excited to have Mtr. Miriam Scott from St. Andrew’s, Amarillo, Fthr. Jim Haney, St. Paul’s, Lubbock and Br. Jimmy Haney, postulant studying at Seminary of the Southwest, Austin, join us. Mtr. Leann Wigner from Canterbury, Lubbock and Dr. Dann Wigner, from St. Stephen’s, Lubbock, were planning to be at Camp Quarterman, Jr., but were ill and unable to attend.

We have been blessed for many years with counselors who love camp and take vacation time to come and work. We had two first time counselors this year, but we also had three counselors this summer, who have been attending camp since 2nd grade.

We (including several counselors) are making plans during the time leading up to camp 2025 to connect with our youth in the diocese (any way we can—mail, email, trips to the churches) to make connections with the youth, families and church members across the diocese.

Each year at camp, I realize what a gift it is to me to be there with the campers and staff. I get to learn from them and walk this journey of faith with them.
