For over a year now, St. John’s, Odessa, has hosted an event that has managed to bring different people together. The event, which is called “Wine and Cheese (and other equally attractive non-alcoholic beverages) has been taking place since November of 2021. The gathering is held on the last Sunday of every month and it brings together people from both Spanish and English communities at St. John’s as well as parents from St. John’s School and other friends and family. The event is held in the Narthex of St. John’s Church and it has become a fun time for those who participate, providing a place to mingle with familiar people or to meet new folks. While the event was originally thought of as only a wine and cheese event, it has become far more than that with people often bringing more elaborate things to eat and beverages of which to partake. With a variety of instrumental music in the background, and people of all ages, the event has even become a place for children to make new friends as they explore and have fun in the church. As people gather, we always start with a brief prayer from “Daily Prayer for All Seasons.” These little moments of prayer add a touch of spiritual community that is also important for some of the attendees. For anyone in Odessa on the last Sunday of the month, feel free to drop by and enjoy a moment of camaraderie with us. No comments yet.
