“Love God. Love one another. And love yourself.
And you’ll change the world.” PB Michael Curry
These thirteen words from our Presiding Bishop are a tall order. Are they easy? No. Do we fall short of always loving God, one another and ourselves? Of course. But each day we must try. And then try again the next.
At our summer camps, it is my hope that we are doing all we can to show love. Showing it in how we speak, act and react. It is during the middle of the day—when we are on our A-game, or in the middle of the night—when we have been awakened. It is seeing that new friend who is homesick, and sitting with them. It is during the sharing of the songs as we praise God, and in the Eucharist—when we share God’s gifts to us in the remembrance of Jesus’ death and resurrection. We share the love of others as we pray for one another at the healing service. We offer love to ourselves when we forgive when we forget to the do the right thing or put ourselves before others. And we love ourselves when we remember we can start new.
Our camp community show this love and they share it—not always on purpose—but they do. They are loving God. They are loving others. They are loving themselves. AND THEY ARE CHANGING THE WORLD! May we all do the same!
Come, join us at camp this summer, as we change the world!
